The Wonderful Scripture of the Supreme Lord Lao on Longevity and Extending Lifespan
The author is unknown, and the text is believed to have been compiled during the Song and Yuan dynasties.
It consists of one fascicle and is included in the Scripture Texts Category of the Cave Spirits Division in the Daoist Canon (Daozang).
The scripture claims that the Supreme Lord Lao ordered the True Lord of Longevity of the Eastern Pole to summon the deities in charge of lifespan calculation of the Six Jia. He instructed these deities to travel across the realm, bestow talismans upon people, teach them to recite the scripture to extend their lifespan, observe fasts and offer devotions, so as to eliminate hardships and sufferings. The text contains various talismans such as the Supreme Lord’s Mind-Opening Talisman, Lifespan-Extending Talisman, Life-Protecting Talisman, Talisman for Reconciling the Five Elements (Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth) to Avoid Mutual Restriction, as well as various talismans for warding off ghosts and evil spirits.
It exhorts people to uphold the scripture and receive the talismans to pray for divine blessings and protection.
