An anonymous postscript is attached at the end of the scripture, stating: Du Changchun, a shepherd boy, once encountered an authentic immortal and achieved sudden enlightenment. In the second year of the Huangtong reign period of the Jin Dynasty (1142), he resided at Tianning Wanshou Temple in Fenzhou, and compiled this scripture the following year.
Reciting this scripture can "ward off celestial disasters above, safeguard one’s own body in the middle, dispel ghostly afflictions below, redeem suffering and absolve sins, and ensure longevity with eternal vision".
The scripture is divided into nine chapters. The first chapter fictitiously depicts the Primordial Lord of Heaven explaining to the Perfected One of Profound Comprehension the reasons why all beings sink into hell, and expounds the "Golden Scripts of the Jade Palace", aiming to deliver the suffering souls from the abyss of misery.
Chapters two to nine constitute the "Golden Scripts of the Jade Palace", written in a four-character verse style with obscure meanings. In general, it interprets the doctrines of protecting fetuses and preserving life, refining and transforming spiritual qi, cultivating the true self and attaining sainthood, based on the principles of the generation and transformation of heaven, earth, yin, yang and the Five Elements.
The postscript at the end describes the methods and merits of reciting this scripture.
