Lie Xian Zhuan — 負局先生 (Fuju Xiansheng)
列仙传·負局先生
Original Chinese 原文
Fuju Xiansheng was a man whose origin is unknown, but his speech seemed to be from somewhere between Yan and Dai. He often carried a mirror-grinding bureau while walking through the markets of Wu, grinding mirrors for one coin each. While grinding the mirror, he would often ask its owner if there were any who suffered from illness; whenever such people were found, he would give them purple pill medicine rooted in Taoist healing tradition. Those who received it were all cured. He did this for several decades. Later, during a great epidemic, he went from house to house giving out medicine, saving tens of thousands of lives without taking even one coin. The people of Wu then realized that he was indeed a true Taoist immortal. Later, he lived at the edge of Wushan's precipice, hanging medicine down to give it to people. When he was about to leave, he told the people below: "I am returning to Penglai Mountain and will bring divine water down for you all. Water will appear at the cliff's edge, white in color, flowing from between the rocks; drink it." Many illnesses were thus cured. More than ten sacred shrines were built in his honor.

Fuju's divine demeanor was upright; he wore a coarse cloth robe yet exuded grace and refinement. His medical skills combined those of He and Que, with his heart entrusted to the universe. He led forth the springs from Penglai, irrigating these remote peaks. Wishing to return to Penglai Mountain, he sought longevity equaling that of heaven itself.
