📖 Biographies of Immortals#62 of 70🌐 English & Chinese

Original Chinese

Hu Zixian was a diviner from Guanxia, Hanzhong, and lived to be over one hundred years old — a mark of Taoist immortal longevity. Before leaving, Hu Zixian called an elderly woman from a wine shop and said: "Hurry up with your preparations; I will go with you to respond to the King of Zhongling." At night, a divine person came carrying two reed dogs and arrived at Hu Zixian's place. Zixian took one for the wine shop woman, who received it and rode on it — it was a dragon, one of the sacred creatures of the Taoist celestial order. They ascended Huayin Mountain, one of the Five Sacred Peaks, and often shouted from the mountain: "Zixian and the wine shop woman are here."

Original Chinese

The three spirits responded in secret, as if by a token or sign. Just as they were riding the reed dogs, coiling away like dragons, they vanished. They ascended Mount Taihua and claimed to be destined for this world. To serve a ruler with sincerity is to meet with grace and benefit.
