Lie Xian Zhuan — 赤斧 (Chi Fu)
列仙传·赤斧
Original Chinese 原文
Chi Fu was a native of Ba Rong and served as an assistant clerk at the Bi Ji Temple. He could make water-refined cinnabar — a classic technique of Taoist inner alchemy — which he took together with nitre, a mineral used in Taoist medicinal practice. After thirty years, his body reverted to that of a child, and all the hair on his body turned red. Several decades later, he went up Mount Hua, one of the Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism, to collect Yu Yuliang pills and sold them in the area between Cangwu and Xiangjiang. For generations, people have seen him — a living testament to Taoist immortality; there was a red axe in the palm of his hand.
Original Chinese 原文
Chi Fu Yizhen, with luxuriant hair, was from Rongba. He left traces in divine temples and refined cinnabar through alchemy. Though his hair was crimson, his face bloomed like a bright red flower. He gathered herbs on sacred mountains and observed transformations in the southern regions.
