Lie Xian Zhuan — 黃阮丘 (Huang Ruanqiu)
列仙传·黃阮丘
Original Chinese 原文
Huang Ruanqiu was a Daoist priest on Sui Mountain. He wore ragged clothes and let his hair hang loose; his ears were seven cun long, he had no teeth in his mouth, and could walk four hundred li a day. For more than one hundred years, he planted leeks and scallions — plants valued in Taoist dietary cultivation — on the mountain, but people did not know about it. At times, when he went down to sell medicine, Zhu Huang discovered him and thus realized that he was a divine person. His ability to warn of earthquakes before they struck reflects the Taoist principle of foreknowledge through inner stillness. He cultivated life by embracing the Dao and refining his inner energy, observing wonders and communicating with spirits. The world together honored him with sacrifices.
