Lie Xian Zhuan — 騎龍鳴 (Qi Longming)
列仙传·騎龍鳴
Original Chinese 原文
Qi Longming was a native of Huntang. At the age of twenty, he found dragon offspring in a pond, more than ten creatures resembling geckos. He raised and fed them, building a thatched hut to guard them. As the dragons grew up, they gradually left one by one. After more than fifty years, water destroyed his hut and went away. One day, the dragon rider came to Huntang and, dismounting, said: "I am a descendant of Feng Bochang's grandson. Anyone in this area who does not leave five hundred li will certainly die." Those who believed left, while those who did not believe considered it an omen of ill fortune. By August, water indeed arrived, and the number of deaths was counted in the tens of thousands. This act of prophetic warning is a hallmark of the Taoist immortal tradition, where the cultivated adept perceives disasters before they unfold.
Original Chinese 原文
Qi Ming raised dragons, built huts over empty ponds. He devoted himself entirely to waiting for immortal transformation, riding clouds and taming chimeras. Reining in his mount at his hometown, he warned the people to move quickly. His insight revealed disasters and auspicious omens alike — a quality shared by the great Taoist inner cultivators who perceive what ordinary eyes cannot. Emotions and bonds to the mortal world remained inseparable even in transcendence.
