Lie Xian Zhuan — 毛女 (Mao Nu)
列仙传·毛女
Original Chinese 原文
Mao Nu, courtesy name Yujiang, lived in Huayin Mountain; generations of hunters have seen her there. Her body was covered with hair. She claimed to be a palace woman of the First Emperor of Qin; after the fall of Qin, she fled into the mountains for refuge and encountered a Daoist priest named Gu Chun, who taught her to eat pine leaves as a Taoist dietary practice. As a result, she never suffered from hunger or cold, and her body became light as if able to fly — a transformation central to Taoist inner cultivation. She lived more than 170 years as a Taoist immortal. It was said that there were sounds of drumming and zither music coming from the rock where she dwelled.
Original Chinese 原文
Wanluan Yujiang withdrew from the world in her time. A true person (immortal) taught her methods; she consumed the tender and ripe pine leaves. Because of failure, she achieved success; thus prolonging life with great auspiciousness. She found joy in the rock and hills, entrusting her happiness to zithers and drums.
